CSAA has organized several themed fund raising events. The events had silent auctions and live auctions of Asian art objects, games, banquets, raffles, and other activities.

The event featured Asian fusion music by Isshin Denshin Atmospheric Ensemble, special event The Enchantment of Poetry, Painting and Calligraphy by Dr. Jan Walls and Yuk Man Lai, and auctions.

A Vanished Beijing Courtyard Gate

Weizhi Zhang is a Beijing based watercolour artist. He has been capturing the vanishing historical courtyard gates on his watercolour canvases since 2001.

Beijing quadrangle courtyards are the most elaborate examples of Chinese vernacular dwelling. Their ethnological character and variations of style, along with their delicate but powerful decorative elements, are of significant historic value and cultural meaning.

Lawrance Lowe is a practicing artist in Vancouver, B.C. Canada, graduated from Emily Carr College of Art + Design in Print Media and has taught Print Media extensively throughout British Columbia. He has exhibited in solo and group shows and has work in private and national exhibitions. He is known for his drawings of trees and has completed a series of drawings and prints of the South False Creek area of Vancouver, with a major focus on the Burrard and Granville Street bridges.

The event commemorated the gift to the CSAA of a significant collection of masks from around the world and, in particular, a collection of wonderful Asian masks. Gala proceeds support the Society’s annual programs, including preparation of an exceptional traveling exhibition of maks to other museums and exhibition centres in British Columbia and across Canada.
