Ulli Steltzer Photographs
The Canadian Society for Asian Arts is pleased to present the traveling exhibit “Portraits of a Forgotten Kingdom,” by internationally renowned BC photographer Ulli Steltzer.
These photos reveal a rare glimpse of the lifestyles and architecture of the remote Naxi minority of Lijiang, China, exploring a society based upon a unique matriarchal social system and renowned for carrying on its ancient traditions. Recently declared an International Heritage Site by the United Nations, the photos capture the soul of Lijiang and its richly textured culture as it enters into a state transition.
The exhibition features 41 framed black and white photographs (16″ x 20″) accompanied by 5 educational text panels. Together, the presentation is both visually and scholastically captivating. The exhibition travels in seven crates and the photos can be displayed individually or in groups, therefore making it ideal for venues of varying display capacities and layouts.
The exhibition is intended to be accessible to as many venues as possible and therefore the loan fee is set at a modest level to defray CSAA costs (with insurance and transportation the responsibility of the borrowing institution). Venues are booked in order of received letters of intent and deposit.
